BBC's (Beta) Multiplatform iPlayer Downloader

I've tried the Beta BBC iPlayer AIR app (which you can find out about here). It allows UK people (or those with proxy servers) to download those iPlayer files via an Adobe air app.

This the Mac OS is are being drawn into the BBC fold. Platform agnostic is the way to go. Web apps, Adobe AIR and Microsoft Silverlight (is Silverlight available on Linux?.

A nice idea as I was sometimes having problems streaming. Alas not much good to me as my poor G5 PowerPC can't really keep up and the video is laggy (their specs suggest Intel Macs only). I hear there is some programme found here that can download files which you can play in quicktime - so don't have to use the air app to play the files, haven't tried it yet.

I guess it works for Linux too? I don't know, hope so.

A dull post. Doh.

Amazon.co.uk sells mp3 Downloads

At last, yay!

If you look at the Amazon homepage under Music then MP3 Downloads (Not going to link directly to the page as Amazon has those strange links that go on forever and I don't know if they expire or whatever), there it is.

I am having a look around. They have some Mixel Pixel, I am thinking of dl'ing something.

Expensive Broccoli at ASDA

Whilst browsing ASDA (UK supermarket)'s online shopping thang, I happened upon this -

£6900 per kg.

Regarde the price per kg. there.
Not the best image capture, but all I can say is "? "

(and maybe "WTF?")

And no it isn't photoshopped.

Etsy.com

After hearing about etsy.com for some time, I actually made a few purchases from sellers on the handmade/craft/small buisiness/artisan stuff website. I liked that I received personal communication from the sellers - both of them sent handwritten notes in with the items I ordered. I am looking out for things, other things, to buy on the site, but I am finding it difficult to find stuff that I like. There are a few ways to search the site for items or sellers or whatever, but I don't find them very helpful. Ah well I'm still looking.

The first items I bought were two beautiful felt (I think) brooches from Kate Broughton after a recommendation somewhere on the web, I think it was notcoture.com

Wolf brooch

The second lot of things I bought were some of these beautiful plastic animal rings from soop but bought through etsy, I can't recall where I heard about - oh no, I saw these rings on the online shop lastfootwear.com, er I think I did anyway, I can't remember anything anymore. All spidery, webby business.
soop rings

As I am a duck these things have to be adapted for me to make wear of them, maybe the rings can be adapted into some kind of headwear and I shall find some way of wearing those brooches.

Wormwood returns with "Red Right Hand"

Wormwood is back after its hiatus of — I dunno it's seemed like a few months but I'm not sure. The drama podcast is return-ed with an episode featuring the demonic possession of a woman called Wendy. Sister George — the priest with a dyed mohican — tries an exorcism...
There are people in town claiming to be from the Roman Catholic Church asking if "the object" is in town and declaring to Sister George that "darkness lurks in Wormwood sister".

There is a long blooper thing at the end of the file.

In the first season each episode touched on many of the people and mysteries of Wormwood, but this second season episodes have focused more on one story per episode. More satisfying if you are interested in that storyline, if you're not then it can be more tedious.

OK. Just wanted to post about something. And am glad to have Wormwood back.

The title of this episode (season 2 episode 09) is called Red Right Hand (google search — should be a link to it there somewhere) which is a song that has been following me around for about a week now.

Wormwood Season 2

I really wonder these days about the point of me writing anything at all.

I had been listening the the second season of the excellent Wormwood horror/mystery drama podcast, but now it is on hiatus. I love the rich world of the series, it feels a little like Twin Peaks. A dark and brooding small American town where everyone has a hidden past and is enmeshed in Something. Oh, and with a wisecracking protagonist (Dr. Xander Crow(e?)) who has an equally wisecracking assistant (Sparrow) - who's pasts are slowly revealing themselves.

Nothing to Say

It seems, these days, I'm – at a loss. I suppose I have to be more spontaneous with some amazing insight, but ppft. There's always my de.icio.us bookmarks, I usually post at least once a day.

WNYC Radio Lab - Deception and Lies

RadioLab is a podcast/radio programme on New York Public Radio that I sometimes listen to, though sometimes I don't, it's a little too reminiscent of This American Life at times.

THis latest edition on Deception was interesting, verrry interesting. The longer it went on the more interesting it became, to me. The second item was a story following a pathological liar, a woman who had several identities and how a woman became "obsessed" (her words) with this woman. See there's the This American Life similarity.

The next items were about people who lie, what characteristics do they have, are they better at certain things than those who aren't as good as lying, are their brains different? And the last section (about self-deception) concluded that people who are more "realistic" and lie less to themselves are more depressed. Though how they asses what reality "is" and what is more realistic I don't know. I mean if these "liars" can lie to themselves that they are going to win a race, and can lie to themselves and believe they have and will win the race. And then they win the race, then they aren't lying to themselves are they? They are describing reality.

Anyway. There isn't anything I listen to that I haven't got points to pick at with - I guess this is a podcast recommendation.

L’hotel Particulier de Montmartre

I decided I'm going to start posting some more diverse stuff, and more often, though I'm sure I won't do anything of the kind. But here is a good intention. Beautiful pictures of the L’hotel Particulier de Montmartre in Paris, a small hotel, well smallish, it only has 5 suites, but look at them,

The room “Tree with ears

each individually decorated by a designer (some are artists or photographers), surrounded by a garden from a fairy tale it looks like. I'm sure the actual hotel isn't as wondrous as it looks, life is always disappointing that way, but I can dream. See pictures of all the suites here.

why does blogger do this weirdness with the images, its fucking up my posts, woss goin' on?

Fiction Podcasts (Some Podcasts I Have Sampled - Nine)

I have listened to the First series (Season?) of Wormwood, a drama in podcast form. Evil lurks in the small town of Wormwood, Dr. Crowe (booming like Brian Blessed at times) has been drawn there after having visions of a drowned woman, when he arrives secrets begin to unfurl.

Shadow Falls is another, similar audio drama, small town, Evil powers, reincarnation, mysterious narrator.

There are other fiction and audiobooks I am listening to, but I haven't listened to enough of those to recommend any, I recommend these two, I have enjoyed them and hope there will be more.

I can't recall whether I mentioned Linux Reality before, but I will mention it now. An excellent introduction to using Linux, and is also good for those wanting more in depth info. I've found it very helpful, there are episodes on things I have wanted to find out about like KDE and GNOME, Linux resources or file systems.

Hello, an update

So, I haven't posted in some time. I haven't really anything to say. Humph.

I have been listening to some new podcasts but I can't really be bothered to write about them. There is a great paranormal/conspiracy/hidden knowledge podcast called Out There (a radio show that podcasts) which I've been listening to, they have had some so-so episodes and some great ones, like the latest episode (48) where they discuss the legacy of Terence McKenna and Timothy Leary - "Psychedelic Torchbearers".

I've been listening to other paranormal etc. type podcasts, there are a few good ones I've found, god in that they are interesting, I find. I'm fed up of hearing things like the Guardian science podcast and such, I want to hear about alien implants, masonic conspiracies and crop circles perhaps being some kind of software that executes without hardware and perhaps some kind of life form. I need that right now. (Though that said the Guardian has a new Tech podcast hosted by Aleks Krotoski that I like, find it here XML link)

MacBook Air looks quite nice, maybe after a few iterations it might be something I am interested in. Maybe not. But I await the effect it might have on Eee PC type laptops. Imagine a cross between the Air and the Eee, I'd like something like that.
